PAYMENT STRUCTURE / SLIDING SCALE

As Alexis says, “the sliding scale relies on the principals of truthfulness, respect for complexity and accountability”. When choosing your payment level, participate at the level that best reflects your current personal financial experience. When you are able to pay at the highest level (Sunflower), you are supporting those who truly need the gift of financial flexibility. When you need to pay at the lowest level (Climbing Rose), sense how the community holds and supports you. The midrange price level (Dahlia) is the actual cost I would charge in the absence of a sliding scale. The intention with the sliding scale is that everyone pays a similar percentage of their income for the same product or services; when this happens, it works effectively and supports a broad ecosystem of humans.

If you are unsure, this discussion of sacrifice vs hardship, copied below and first posted HERE by Alexis J. Cunningfolk, may be helpful:

“Recently, someone shared with me the idea of sacrifice versus hardship when examining access. If paying for a class, product, or service would be difficult, but not detrimental, it qualifies as a sacrifice. You might have to cut back on other spending in your life (such as going out to dinner, buying coffee, or a new outfit), but this will not have a long term harmful impact on your life. It is a sacred sacrifice in order to pursue something you are called to do. If, however, paying for a class, product, or service would lead to a harmful impact on your life, such as not being able to put food on the table, pay rent, or pay for your transportation to get to work, then you are dealing with hardship. Folks coming from a space of hardship typically qualify for the lower end of the sliding scale.”

I also resonate with what Britt Hawthorne, at Embracing Equity, has to say about the sliding scale.

I appreciate you taking this into consideration and then without worry, pay at the level that most reflects your situation. You can adjust your payment level as your circumstances change.

I am hoping you will join me in embracing an alternative payment structure. As with all areas of creating new culture, this will require a new mutual understanding. This sliding scale reflects an ecosystem, not a hierarchy. If you are very familiar with sliding scale structures, you could skip to the payment links at the bottom of this page. I’m providing this information here in hopes you will take a few moments to read it and understand the levels of my sliding scale. I appreciate your time investment and contribution to creating a strong and sustainable community!

In order to sustain my services while making accessibility as broad as possible, I use this tool of economic justice pictured below. This was created by community healing practitioner and astroherbalist Alexis J. Cunningfolk. Please go to wortsandcunning.com for more on Alexis’ sliding scale philosophy and practice.
